Origin and Evolution
GEMA was established as a sole proprietorship in September 1999, focusing on first aid and industrial safety training. Training sessions were conducted at client facilities. Two decades later, on November 19, 2019, it was formally incorporated as a legal entity under the tax designation “Comercializadora e Integradora de Productos y Servicio GEMA” (GEMA Products and Services Distributor and Integrator). At that time, the organization was represented solely by the owner, who also acted as the instructor.
To maintain the fixed costs associated with the consulting firm, a water purification system was integrated, which has been in operation since November 1, 2014.
In 2017, preparations began to establish a Basic Technician in Comprehensive Risk Management (TBGIR) program, with the intention of cultivating experience as an expert in civil protection.
Formal consulting services were launched in 2019. Staff recruitment began, driven by the Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro (Youth Building the Future) program and engineering residents, which facilitated the formation of a collaborative team responsible for providing training and consulting services. This service offering encompassed the implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems.
The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic abruptly disrupted training and consulting services. In an effort to maintain operations, a diversified retail outlet was established, offering food, face masks, N95 respirators, hand sanitizer, safety glasses, and face shields. Simultaneously, clients sought assistance in implementing COVID-related protocols, and GEMA also emerged as a supplier of materials needed to mitigate the pandemic. This period spanned two years, during which the company struggled to remain operational with minimal profitability.
During this period of crisis, initiatives were undertaken to cultivate expertise in integrated management systems, environmental management, and energy efficiency. With the support of UNIR's educational framework, a Master's degree in Integrated Management Systems was obtained, equipping individuals with the necessary skills to work as implementers of the Management, Industrial Safety, Operational Safety, and Environmental Protection System for the Hydrocarbons Sector (SASISOPA).
In 2022, the comprehensive services of the management system were implemented with greater rigor. I received certification as a Basic Technician in Comprehensive Risk Management and began the process of becoming a Civil Protection Expert. In December 2022, I successfully achieved formal registration as a civil protection expert in the state of Tamaulipas.
In 2023, the company's teaching and course design competencies were duly certified. It adopted the trade name GEMA Capacitación y Consultoría HSEQ (GEMA Training and Consulting HSEQ) but retained its tax designation as “Comercializadora e Integradora de Productos y Servicio GEMA” (GEMA Products and Services Marketing and Integration Company). Currently, the company has a staff of five, in addition to regular contributions from residents.
